Petrograd in Transit is an instrumental indie rock band from St. Petersburg, FL. Started in 2007 as the project of guitarist Brian Steele, the band slowly took shape over the course of a year, with the current lineup being solidified in the summer of 2008. The band has one release to date, the Lifesize Balloon Animals, e.p., which is available as a free download through Wise Owl Records. The band's early shows generated immediate buzz, leading Reax's head writer, Michael Rabinowitz to write, "After last night's show at New World, I want St. Petersburg's Petrograd In Transit to be my personal theme band. Epic and sweeping, every daily activity--no matter how mundane--would be life affirming with Petrograd behind me." Epic, sweeping, and anthemic are all words used to describe the band's sound, which, in large part due to the unique retro 80's keyboard sounds, adds a new element to the traditional, anthemic, post-rock sound.
